2010 Woodstock Shiraz
Campbell Mattinson - The Wine Front, Feb 2012
Needs a serious stint in the decanter – a few hours I’d reckon – but it then throws the bulk of it sulphide-y stink and becomes quite lovely.
It’s different to previous wines released under this label. Not so much sweet flavour upfront; more savouriness and control. It makes drinking it like taking a step into a more modern world. i.e. it’s a more challenging wine, but also a better one. It has quite a few pongy elements and it finishes with notes of mineral and gunmetal, but choc-blackberries flavours are still here in spades. Refined, taut, focussed finish. You need to have some patience with this but it’s good.
